My First Experience with CBD Oil
CBD Oil is All the Rage, Especially in Colorado. but Does it Really Work?
Being from the Midwest, a less-progressive area when it comes to CBD, I was shocked to see how popular CBD and all of its variations were when I moved to Denver.
CBD companies and products are infinitely abundant. Overwhelmingly so. So much so that it is nearly impossible to know what companies are certified for quality, which taste the best, which are ideal for stress-relief, aches & pains, etc., which products are the most reasonably priced for the amount of CBD you’re getting, how much CBD is right for me and my needs... the list goes on.
I had SO many questions and although curious to test out a calming CBD product, I didn’t know where to begin. So, I put off testing any product for quite a while.
Fortunately, back in October - when my anxiety hit an all-time high - I came across the opportunity to test out and review a CBD oil supplement for free. I figured, why not? The company was one that I was already familiar with as it also provides vitamin and mineral supplements, so I figured this was the safest way for me to test out CBD oil for stress-relief and calming effects.
After a month of use, here are my thoughts:
Product: Garden of Life’s Dr. Formulated Whole Hemp Extract CBD from the Vitamin Shoppe.
Dose: 10mg, THC-free
Flavor: Chocolate Mint
Effect: Calming, theraputic “entourage effect” - used to reduce pain & anxiety
My Opinion:
Taste:
I truly enjoy the taste of this product! Especially this time of year/around the winter holidays. The chocolate mint flavor mimicked a peppermint hot chocolate.
Effects:
I only experienced the calming/anxiety-relief benefits when I used the product before bed (when I was already a bit tired). One drop of this product relaxed me and aided in falling asleep more quickly; however, I did not feel the calming effects during the day.
I had hoped that a drop or two of this CBD oil in the afternoon would help eliminate some of my workday stress, but I didn’t notice any difference.
I did see some reviews of this product mentioning the need for a higher dosage to feel effects, so maybe I simply wasn’t taking enough.
I’ve also heard the effects of CBD oils vary from person to person, so it could be that my highly anxious self is simply made to stay that way (lol).
Texture/Drinkability:
I did have a slight issue with the drinkability of the oil drops. It is recommend one add the CBD oil to lattes or smoothies. The drops, unfortunately, did not mix well with my coffee.
I guess I should’ve expected this as oil and water don’t mix (oil floats to the top), but I had hoped the CBD oil might mix a bit better than most.
Because the oil floated to the top of my coffee, I found myself either drinking a boat loat of oil at the end of my coffee cup or attempting to sip only the top layer of my coffee (and looking very odd while doing so lol).
So, despite the great flavor, it was a bit of a hassle drinking this product.
My Advice:
Give CBD products a shot and gear up for having to test out multiple products to find one that works best for you.
It is true that products, dosages and personal reactions vary, so it really comes down to trial and error.
After this first trial, I’m excited to test out other CBD products to find one that works best for me. Any product/company recommendations are more than welcome!
Is there a certain CBD oil or CBD product that works best for you and your anxiety? Let me know!
xoxo, Rachel
